XAUUSD grid EA

A gold grid EA that shows you its worst case first

AURAX runs a grid strategy on XAUUSD inside your own MetaTrader 5 terminal. It wins by closing baskets on retracements — and like every grid, it can lose heavily when gold runs one way. So the product is built around that second case: hard drawdown limits, entry filters, and a worst-case figure for every setting before it is applied.

How the grid trades

  1. First position

Opens at the base lot (default 0.01) — only in the allowed direction when filters are on.

  2. Grid levels

Each 500-point ($5.00) move against the basket adds a position, ×2 larger by default, up to 8 positions.

  3. Basket close

When the combined profit reaches the basket target (default $3), every position in the basket closes together.

  4. Both directions

A buy basket and a sell basket can run at the same time, each managed on its own; combined profit can close both together.

The default ladder. Total 2.55 lots; the last level alone is 50% of the exposure. Assumes 100 oz per lot ($1 per lot per $0.01), and ignores spread, commission and swap — real losses are higher.

The defaults are a martingale grid — each level doubles — and half the exposure sits in the last level. Every one of these values can be changed, and the multiplier can be flat, applied every Nth level or a custom sequence. Grid trading vs martingale explains what that choice does.

Risk controls

ControlWhat it does
Max drawdown kill switchCloses everything and stops at 20% drawdown from the account's peak by default (or a money amount). It does not restart by itself — the next basket is your decision.
Daily drawdown pauseStops new entries for the rest of the day at 5% daily loss by default; open positions are still managed.
Entry filtersOptional higher-timeframe trend, ADX direction and M1 spike filters that keep the grid from starting into a strong move.
Time filterTwo blocked windows (server time) for new entries — around rollover or scheduled releases.
Worst-case panelFor any settings: full-basket lots, grid span, the loss at the last level and the level at which the kill switch would fire.
Remote controlPause, resume and close from the portal, with an emergency pause-and-close across accounts.

What you need

  • MetaTrader 5 and a broker that offers XAUUSD on it. The EA runs in your terminal; your broker executes every order.
  • A terminal that stays on: your own PC or VPS, or AURAX managed hosting. See do you need a VPS?
  • A licence per MT5 account. The trial includes a demo licence, so the first run is on a demo account.

AURAX never holds your funds and cannot withdraw from your account; it trades through the terminal you run. How AURAX works shows the full architecture.

What it is not

  • Not a signal service or a managed account — you run it, and you own every decision it makes on your settings.
  • Not risk-free, and not a source of guaranteed income. A grid's typical result is many small wins and occasional large losses.
  • Not a prediction engine. It does not forecast where gold is going; it trades a defined set of rules with defined limits.
